From Curiosity to Capability: Jasmin’s Pivot to Cybersecurity

Introducing Empowered Journeys, a series that spotlights individuals who have embraced growth to unlock their potential, creating possibilities for a promising career at NETS.

Jasmin began her career in Digital Media, working in multimedia roles from graphic design, marketing, video production and motion graphics. It was her fascination with crime stories that sparked her curiosity about how digital systems are protected, and what happens when they are compromised. That curiosity evolved into a career pivot toward Cybersecurity. What drew her to BCS, an entity of NETS Group, was the chance to gain a foothold in cybersecurity within the financial sector, a fast-evolving field that offers constant learning and professional growth. After applying for the role as an intern in the IT Security – Security Governance & Assurance (SGA) team with BCS, she expertly navigated the interviews to land the role successfully.

Learning, Mentorship, and a Clear Sense of Direction

From day one, she found herself in a collaborative and welcoming environment. Her openness to learn allowed her to quickly develop a strong grounding in governance, assurance, and regulatory compliance, learning to approach cybersecurity through a risk-and-control perspective. Equally impactful was the mentorship she received, which played a key role in her growth and confidence.

“The team was incredibly supportive,” Jasmin shares. “My seniors took the time to guide me, answer my questions, and help me understand not just what needed to be done, but why it was important.”

She acknowledges and credits Abdul Hadi for supporting her transition through impactful mentorship and practical guidance during her internship with the SGA team.

While SGA gave her a strong footing, she aspired to become a more well-rounded cybersecurity professional by strengthening her technical skills. With BCS’ encouragement and confidence in her potential, Jasmin made the transition from intern to full-time employee, joining the Security Engineering team. She appreciates Premkumar, a senior colleague and mentor in her current Security Engineering team, for his guidance, practical insights, and generosity in sharing real-world experience.

Breaking into the industry was challenging, but Jasmin’s perseverance paid off. Today, she works with advanced security tools to protect systems and safeguard data. Energised by the constant learning and clear growth pathways in cybersecurity, she values the daily challenges and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through her work.

Where Recognition, Support, and Empowerment Come Together

Beyond her core role, Jasmin has been given opportunities to represent BCS and grow professionally, participating in an industry panel discussion as a Security Engineer. Internally, she won a “You’re One in a Million” employee recognition award, titled: AAA Battery, for having a can-do attitude and rising to challenges. She also brought her personality to the forefront by winning second place for Best Dressed at NETS Dinner & Dance 2025, reflecting her love for self-expression beyond work.
