- NETS QR payments across all hawker centres and canteens doubling every month
- NETS launches new marketing campaign at selected hawker centres and tertiary campus canteens to encourage QR payments
Singapore, 2 April 2018 - Hawker centre and canteen patrons are taking to NETS QR code payments, with NETS QR code transactions doubling every month since the payment mode was launched in September 2017, translating into a 3000% increase in daily NETS QR code transactions since the launch.
NETS launched QR code payments in September 2017 with Tanjong Pagar Market & Food Centre (TPFC) the first hawker centre in Singapore to accept QR code payments. To date, there are more than 2,000 hawker stalls and canteens across the island.
Said Mr Ang Sok Hong, Head of Sales & Marketing, NETS, “We have received tremendous support from hawkers and canteen operators since we launched QR code payments in September last year. Once they’re on board, they really see the value in accepting QR code payments and proactively educate their customers and fellow hawkers to try it out. What’s also been encouraging is the support that we’ve received from tertiary institutions. Their management teams are actively promoting the cashless message at their campuses and that has resulted in students and faculty adopting NETS QR code payments wholeheartedly.”
NETS QR is able to accept payments from customers using NETSPay, DBS’ PayLah, OCBC’s Pay Anyone or UOB’s Mighty mobile apps. There are currently more than 55,000 NETS QR code acceptance points across the island.
Owner of Jin Jin Dessert at ABC Brickworks Market Food Centre Mr Calvin Ho said, “I find it very convenient to have NETS QR payment option because it frees up my staff to focus on serving customers instead of collecting payment. It is mostly the office crowd that uses QR code payments but I have been trying to teach my older customers to try it too.”
Go Cashless Campaign
To incentivize more diners to go cashless, NETS is launching a new campaign to reward patrons at selected hawker centres and tertiary campus canteens who pay via NETS QR code.
From today until 31 May 2018, diners will receive a $0.50 discount off every transaction when they pay via NETS QR code. NETS will also reward hawkers with $0.20 for every successful NETS QR code transaction. Terms and conditions apply.
More details on the campaign can be found at www.nets.com.sg/gocashless.
The drive to promote QR code payments is in support of Singapore’s Smart Nation vision and part of a concerted drive to convert about S$1 billion in cash-based transactions taking place across 6,000 hawker and food stalls in Singapore every year to a cashless environment. To encourage the installation of NETS terminals by hawkers, NETS has waived all terminal and transaction fees for hawkers for three years. NETS static QR will be incorporated under the SGQR code specifications when the latter is released later this year.
