NETS Revs Up CashCard Motoring Applications

Singapore, 28 February 2007 | For Immediate Release
Partnerships With Singapore Petroleum Company, Carpark Operators Make Life Easier for Motorists in Singapore.

Singapore’s leading electronic payments provider, NETS, today launched a new range of NETS CashCard applications aimed at delivering greater convenience for the motoring public.

These new applications include contactless ‘Wave-and-Go’ payment at selected car parks, payment for carwash services, as well as online top-ups and payments services.

“NETS is constantly exploring new applications to tap on the NETS CashCard’s potential to be the all-in-one card Singaporeans will ever need for small-value payment,” said NETS General Manager for CashCard and Processing, Jocelyn Ang.

“Our latest initiatives are aimed at delivering greater convenience for motorists. The mix of contact and contactless capabilities of the NETS CashCard creates more options for us to provide users with a seamless payment experience from their vehicle to convenience stores, quick service merchants outlets, supermarkets and eventually public transport,” she added.

The new NETS CashCard applications augment existing ones such as ERP and EPS car-park payment and retail purchases.

The launch of CEPAS, a nation-wide interoperable payment platform, paves the way for NETS CashCard to enter the transit card market by 2010. By then, Singaporeans would be able to use it onboard buses and trains.

New ‘Wave-and-Go’ Payment at Car Parks
NETS has just completed pilot trials of a new contactless payment system at several car parks around the island, where motorists simply wave their NETS CashCard at a sensor at the exit. Compared to existing systems that use automated gantries to identify the in-vehicle unit, this is a more cost-efficient mode of cashless payment for car park operators, with greater ease of implementation.

The spokesperson for Property Manager of Tiong Bahru Plaza and Central Plaza, AsiaMalls Management Pte Ltd, who also operates the car park in the development, said, “The introduction of the new ‘Wave-and-Go’ payment system is a much more compelling proposition. We see this innovation as a catalyst to such systems being implemented nationwide because it makes faster returns on investments.”

Pay for Your Carwash using NETS CashCard via NETS Wireless Payment Technology
NETS has partnered Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) to introduce an innovative payment solution at the latter’s petrol stations, for customers who use its carwash services. Customers need not leave the vehicle nor fumble for cash to make payment, courtesy of NETS wireless handheld terminal that accepts the NETS CashCard.

Welcoming the convenience this brings to customers, Mr Amber Chandra, Programme Manager for Speedy Care and Manual Car Wash, said: “This retail initiative with NETS at selected SPC car wash facilities is an example of how SPC works closely with other industry players to enhance our customers’ experience. With this new payment mode together with a host of other payment facilities at its convenience store, CHOICES, and one-stop automotive service centre, Speedy Care, SPC offers our customers total convenience under one roof, underpinning its service motto as your friendly neighbourhood service station.”

Online NETS CashCard Top-up and Internet Payment on Government Websites
NETS CashCard users will soon be able to top up their CashCards online with a credit card using an open-platform card reader. These readers can be purchased from all CyberActive 7 outlets located islandwide such as IMM and Jurong Point, as well as at major retailers from next quarter onwards. This new top-up option will be available at www.netscashcard.com.sg from 28 Mar 2007 and offers all users round-the-clock convenience right from the comfort of home – a boon to time-strapped professionals. The first 500 CashCard users who register themselves online will receive a free card reader.

We have also enhanced the NETS online CashCard services. Consumers can use the new reader for online purchases.
