NETS Achieves $250,000 Donation Target for Children’s Cancer Foundation

Singapore, 5 December 2007 | For Immediate Release
Sum pegged to 25 million NETS transactions and forms 10 percent of CCF’s annual funds required

Singaporeans from all walks of life have collectively raised $250,000 for the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF), just by making a NETS transaction.

This was made possible with a pledge by Singapore’s leading electronic payments provider, NETS, to donate one cent for every NETS CashCard retail transaction or eNETS transaction made over the past one-year period.

This donation drive was kicked off in September last year as part of NETS’ ‘Helping Hands, Touching Hearts’ Programme, with the aim of raising $250,000 on the back of 25 million NETS transactions by end-2007.

This sum is 10 percent of the annual $2.5 million funding needed by CCF, an independent non-profit organisation founded in 1992 to help children with cancer and their families.

“We would like to thank all Singaporeans who helped us raised this amount ahead of schedule, and in doing so contributed towards a good cause,” said NETS CEO Poh Mui Hoon.

“As a homegrown company and responsible corporate citizen, NETS is committed to helping the under-privileged and less fortunate members of our society. Our donation to CCF is made in this spirit and we will continue to explore further ways to give back to the community, which the public can participate in,” she added.

Ms Poh was speaking at the Cheque Presentation Ceremony held at Downtown East, where she handed a cheque for $250,000 to CCF’s Co-Chairperson for Medical Outreach & Strategic Alliances, Dr Tay Miah Hiang.

Thanking NETS for its support, Dr Tay Miah Hiang said: “This donation caps a year of successful collaboration between NETS and CCF, for the benefit of our patients and their families. We greatly appreciate this kind gesture and thank all Singaporeans who made it possible by participating in the fund-raising drive.”

The event was attended by CCF beneficiaries and their families, who were also treated to a performance by Aga-Boom – a critically acclaimed interactive comedy performance by Cirque Du Soleil veterans.

They were joined by members of NETS’ Privilege Programme, who had won tickets to watch the performance by playing an online game on the NETS website. This promotion is part of the NETS Festive Treats Lucky Draw, where consumers stand to win up to $20,000 in weekly cash prizes for making NETS transactions. They will be awarded a lucky draw chance for every NETS transaction made, which enters them into an electronic draw during the qualifying period.

The NETS Festive Treats Lucky Draw ends on 31 December 2007. Further details are available at www.nets.com.sg/festive.
