17 Aug 2005
Singapore's electronic payments leader, Network for
Electronic Transfers Singapore Pte Ltd (NETS) today
announced the appointment of Ms Susan Hwee, Executive
Vice President, Information Technology at United Overseas
Bank (UOB), as the new Chairman of NETS.
"NETS has grown from strength to strength over the past
20 years to become one of Asia's leading payments providers,"
said Ms Poh Mui Hoon, CEO of NETS. "To continue to achieve
this, we continue to require strong leadership and a
good management team," she said. "NETS welcomes Ms Hwee
and firmly believes that together with the Board, she
will be able to propel NETS into the next phase of growth."
Ms Hwee is not new to NETS. She has been one of NETS'
Directors since 21 June 2002, and brings with her more
than 20 years of experience in the Financial and IT
industry. Prior to joining UOB in 2001, she held various
senior positions in several large technology and banking
organizations, including IBM, Citibank N.A. and Keppel
/ Keppel Tat Lee Bank (prior to its merger with OCBC
Bank).
"I'm very honoured with my new appointment and look
forward to working with our partner banks to expand
the scope of services that NETS can offer and take it
further into the region," said Ms Susan Hwee, newly
appointed Chairman of NETS. "With the uptake in technology
by consumers and retailers, electronic payment is becoming
increasingly popular as a preferred mode of payment.
My vision is to continue to harness technology to transform
the business and ultimately drive higher growth for
the company," said Ms Hwee.
Ms Hwee's appointment took effect from 17 July 2005
and will be for a term of one year. She takes over from
the outgoing chairman, Ms Sim Puay Suang.
The Board and Management of NETS would like to thank
Ms Sim for the valuable contributions she had made to
NETS. "NETS is grateful to Puay Suang for her energy
and enthusiasm, as well as her leadership. These, together
with her tireless commitment as Chairman of the Board
have all helped to position NETS at the centrestage
of the global electronic payments industry. We thank
her for her efforts over the past two years," said Ms
Poh.
